ACLU Report Calls for Stronger U.S. Privacy Oversight

The American Civil Liberties Union released a November 2009 report recommending steps needed to augment privacy oversight and counterbalance the rush of new technologies and expanding government powers.  The report called for Congress and the Obama Administration to:

  1. Create a White House Privacy Advisor position
  2. Quickly fill the seats on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB)
  3. Establish an independent privacy commission to serve as a private-sector privacy watchdog
